Under the direction of a Covenant volunteer committee, help clear garden debris, rake, trim and/or plant to get the grounds around the church in shape for spring. Steady rain at 830 will postpone; rain date TBA. Approx 90 min to 2 hrs of work but any amount of time you can help is welcomed.
Currently they are looking for 10-12 Scouts to volunteer.
Honor flight is a nonprofit organization that raises money to fly veterans to Washington DC to see the war memorials built in their honor. They currently prioritize WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans.
What the night would look like? The Scouts would arrive at Dane County Regional Airport in Madison at 6:30 and check in with the other volunteers. We will likely then be asked to finish setting out chairs and then maintaining a clear aisle. While doing this, the Scouts will be encouraged to talk to the people waiting for loved ones to return. Last flight we helped the Red Cross by handing out cookies and water. At some point the plane returning the veterans and their guardians lands. We will then be reassigned to hold flags at the staircase while they come down off the plane with military escorts. Afterwards, we will help collect the chairs and clean up. After regrouping, we will be free to leave at approximately 10 pm.
This is a very powerful, emotional experience. This is a great service hour opportunity. If you would like to get on the sign up list, please send me a email back, along with another adult asap @matt swadley
