Assistant Patrol Leader

Elected by: Patrol Members                              RESPONSIBLE TO: Patrol Leader

When you accepted the position of assistant patrol leader, you agreed to provide service and leadership in our troop. This responsibility should be fun and reward­ing. This position description tells some of the things you are expected to do while serving as a junior leader. Take notes on this page as you participate in the “Introduction to Leadership” session with your Scoutmaster or assistant Scoutmaster.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Wear the Scout uniform correctly Help the patrol leader
  • Plan and lead patrol meetings and activities
  • Keep patrol members informed
  • Prepare your patrol to take part in all troop activities
  • Lead the patrol in the patrol leader’s absence
  • Represent the patrol at all patrol leaders’ council meetings in the patrol leader’s absence
  • Show and help develop patrol spirit
  • Work with other troop leaders to make the troop run well
  • Set a good example
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Law

IMPORTANT NOTE

This position does not qualify for leadership credit for the ranks of Star and above.  You can be the APL, but you should also hold another qualifying position if you need leadership credit.
